Energy Jobs in Canada – Hydro Jobs

Canada is energy rich. The country’s hydro generating facilities and hydro electrical distribution networks employ a large number of individuals in Engineering jobs, Management jobs and other high paying positions across the country but primarily in the provinces of Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec which are home to the Canada's largest hydro generating stations.

Hydropower Jobs

Hydro or hydropower is the extraction of energy from moving water. Water is the second most powerful renewable used for the production of electricity. The use of hydro power rather then electrical power has numerous advantages. One of the biggest advantages is price. It is less expensive to use hydro power than other forms of electrical power. Countries that utilize hydropower do not have to depend as much on foreign oil. The form of energy also helps to reduce C2 outputs.

There is a wide variety of jobs available in the hydropower sector. The industry requires the expertise of numerous professional, trained in a significant number of disciplines. Mechanical and electrical engineers, environmental scientists, technicians, resource managers, reservoir managers and developers are employed by hydro generation companies as are wildlife habitat specialists, biologists, ecologists and hydrologists (Green Jobs).

If an individual is trained as a biologist, scientist, hydrologist, management or as a developer, their education and skill set may translate well to the hydropower sector. To determine whether or not a person qualifies for any of the above positions, a simple comparison of their credentials with the ones required for the job will determine this. Most companies will include the available job’s requirements in their job listings.

The use of hydropower is something that Canada has become expert in. The country is one of the world leaders in the use of this technology. Canada has some of the largest and most powerful hydropower generators in the world. Individuals interested in being employed in this sector, will find that the number of jobs and the range of occupations required to keep the industry moving are substantial.

Oil and Gas Production

Oil and Gas production, which employs a substantial number of workers, including those in the energy sector is an important industry in Canada, as it is elsewhere in the world. Many of these jobs are concentrated in the province of Alberta but also extend into the provinces of British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Offshore Drilling

Canada has also become well known for their offshore drilling industries. Some of the individuals employed in this sector work in offshore drilling operations in Alberta and Newfoundland's Hibernia oil fields. Jobs in the oil and gas industries tend to compensate workers well. These types of jobs are typically rapid paced and the range of jobs is vast.
